Favorite food blogs and websites
Not that you need to check anywhere but here, but if you did... these are my favorites.
Bella/Bello
- Bacon. Donuts. Cheese. More pork products. Basically, there's something for everyone at bella/bello. And it's written by my readheaded cousin (bonus!): bellabello.blogspot.com
Professional Chicks
- Professional Chicks is a frequently-updated compilation of culinary, fashion and lifestyle advice, primarily focused on the City of Chicago: professionalchicks.wordpress.com
Redheads Gotta Eat
- This blog contains a list of scrumptious recipes with lots of humorous asides and pretty pictures, created by my sister in NYC (also a redhead, clearly): redheadsgottaeat.blogspot.com
Eater
- This multi-city blog covers the latest happenings in Chicago's culinary scene. They also provide a list of the best restaurants in the windy city: chicago.eater.com
Serious Eats
- This site focuses on the Big Apple's culinary scene, but the thorough recipe archive can be appreciated anywhere: seriouseats.com
Tasting Table
- Tasting Table is like a more comprehensive, professional, multi-city Ginger List. I read their email newsletters daily. tastingtable.com
David Lebovitz
- David Lebovitz is a well-known pastry chef, who began his commendable career in Cali and was trained in France. His blog, recipes archive and twitter updates are all worth tuning into, in my opinion: davidlebovitz.com
- My favorite recipe of his, which is utterly delicious and earned me many many a compliment this past Christmas Eve: www.davidlebovitz.com/2008/02/chez-panisse-al
Smitten Kitchen
- As the web site boasts, the husband and wife duo behind smitten kitchen is fearlessly cooking from a modest home base in NYC. The site specializes in comfort foods and includes super helpful tutorials about cooking basics: smittenkitchen.com
America's Test Kitchen
- America's Test Kitchen has a sizable recipe archive (it's a bit hit-or-miss), but the real reason to check this site out is the equipment reviews. If you're in the market for a new sauce pan, cheese grater or juicer, check here first: americastestkitchen.com
AIWF
- The American Institute of Food & Wine is a great local resource for Chicagoans. In addition to an informative newsletter, AIWF hosts regular events and wine tastings: aiwf.org
Food & Wine
- Food & Wine's site offers several free recipes and articles: foodandwine.com
